What is a link exchange?

A link exchange is a place on the internet where companies or individuals running websites can swap links – it’s that simple. If you run a website, or you’re about to set one up, you’ll know that linking to external sites is incredibly important. It benefits your website in two particular ways:

  1. Users will find your site more interesting and practical if they can find relevant links there.
  2. Your site will appear higher up in search engine rankings if it contains some high quality links. Don’t go crazy though: search engines are clever little blighters, and so-called ‘link farms’ (pages that contain links and not much else) are frowned upon.

How does a link exchange work?

There are two parts to the Link Choices link exchange. First, there’s the directory. This is a list of all the websites that want to exchange links, and it’s divided into categories so that you can find sites your users might be interested in. When you register with us, your site’s details will be included in this list. You can search for sites to exchange links with, and other sites can find you too.

When you set up or accept a link request, you’ll need to add the site to your link tracker software, the second part of the Link Choices link exchange package.

How do I track my links after I’ve exchanged them?

The software has been exclusively developed by Link Choices and enables you to track all of your reciprocal links. You can view them all in a list and check that the sites you’ve exchanged with are still linking to you. If they’re not, you can contact the site or remove it from your list and exchange with someone else.
